On March 26, 2025, the Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) achieved a key milestone in technical capacity building at the SRA-LAREC facility in Floridablanca, Pampanga. The M3DAS team played a central role in this initiative, serving as resource speakers for the event titled “Capacity Building for SRA-Research Development & Extension Personnel.”
Mastering Geospatial Tools: QGIS and M3DAS
The training focused on empowering SRA personnel with modern digital tools to enhance their research and extension capabilities. Key highlights included:
Data Resource Mapping: A deep dive into QGIS (Quantum Geographic Information System), teaching participants how to visualize and analyze spatial data effectively.
Mechanization Mapping: An exploration of how mapping farm machinery contributes to the broader M3DAS application framework.
Strategic Planning: Demonstrating how spatial data leads to more accurate assessments of resource distribution, allowing for better-informed policy and development decisions.
Strengthening the Partnership
By training RDE personnel on these advanced systems, the M3DAS team is ensuring that the tools developed under the projectโfunded by DOST-PCAARRD and implemented by UPLB-BIOMECHโbecome deeply integrated into the SRAโs daily operations.
This collaboration marks a significant step toward a sustainable, data-driven future for the Philippine sugarcane industry, where agricultural innovation is supported by high-level technical expertise.
