Continuing its commitment to technical empowerment, the M3DAS project team served as resource speakers during the SRA Capacity Building program held from May 20–22, 2025, at Negros Residences in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental.

The three-day intensive workshop focused on the SRA–Research Development & Extension (RDE) personnel, equipping them with the digital skills necessary to modernize the management of the sugarcane industry in the Western Visayas region.

Core Training: QGIS and Data-Driven Assessment
The presentation, titled “Data Resource Mapping with the use of Quantum Geographic Information System (QGIS),” utilized real-world data from the M3DAS platform to demonstrate:

Spatial Visualization: How to transform raw mechanization data into interactive maps.

Resource Assessment: Using M3DAS data to identify gaps in machinery availability and suitability across different mill districts.

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Integration: Training personnel to use QGIS—an industry-standard open-source tool—to maintain and update regional mechanization maps.

Fostering a Culture of Knowledge Sharing
The session underscored the vital role of farm mechanization mapping in strategic decision-making. By moving away from anecdotal evidence toward data-driven assessments, the SRA can better plan for the sustainable development of the sugarcane industry.

The M3DAS team expressed their appreciation for the SRA’s dedication to professional development and their continued partnership in this initiative.

Project Partners
