The M3DAS project successfully presented its research findings during the 74th PSABE Annual National Convention, held from April 21–25, 2025, at the Grand Xing Imperial Hotel in Iloilo City.
Under the theme “Bridging Sustainability and Innovations: Driving Collective Actions for Climate Resiliency and Water, Energy, and Food Security,” the convention served as a premier platform for Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (ABE) professionals to exchange solutions for the country’s most pressing agricultural challenges.
Technical Paper Highlights
Engr. Ma. Mercedes Gumban represented the team, presenting the technical paper:
“Data-Driven Assessment of the Enumerated Sugarcane Mechanization Resources in Leyte using the Developed Mechanization Resource Mapping, Monitoring, and Data Analysis System (M3DAS)”
The presentation focused on how the M3DAS platform transforms raw field data into actionable insights for the province of Leyte. Key takeaways included:
Precision Mapping: The use of the M3DAS web application to accurately locate and catalog mechanization assets.
Monitoring & Analysis: How the system facilitates a centralized, digital approach to assessing the availability and suitability of farm machinery.
Sustainability Support: The role of data-driven planning in ensuring food security and resource efficiency within the sugarcane industry.
A Collaborative Achievement
The M3DAS project is a testament to successful inter-agency cooperation, implemented by UPLB-BIOMECH and funded by DOST-PCAARRD in close coordination with the Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA). By participating in this national forum, the team continues to advocate for the digitalization of Philippine agriculture to build a more resilient and mechanized future.
